Valle de Guadalupe: La Escuelita and Troika
The summer will be over before we know it, and at its busiest time of year, the Valle de Guadalupe is celebrating its vendimia season. The seasonal campestres are in full force, and you will start to notice the heavier flow of traffic. The vineyards, restaurants, and chefs of the region host different events for the first 2 weeks of August, and it all closes with a final Paella fest. Just before we made it to Troika for a late lunch, we stopped by "La Escuelita" to share a glass of their house red blend, and discover the admirable features and architecture.
Troika is one of the newest additions to the summer line up of seasonal campestres. Chef Diego Hernández of Corazón de Tierra and Krista Velasco that heads the kitchen at Cerveceria Wendlandt, have created the menu at this new spot. The "set of three" that have joined forces to make up what Troika is: Corazon de Tierra, Vena Cava winery, and Cerveceria Wendlandt.
A clear day in the heart of Mexico's wine country, under the perfectly shaded canopy is just so right. Combine that setting with a more casual, and of course equally satisfying menu, and an ice cold class of Wendlandt's Pale Ale, sheer bliss!
You can also enjoy the wines, and stunning views of Phil Gregory's winery Vena Cava during your meal. I had a glass (or two) of his newest addition, the Claret 100% Grenache. What a beauty! I could have easily sat at our colorful wooden table all day breathing in the fresh air, accompanied by the aromas wafting from the gastro truck, sipping that delicious wine.
The afternoon was filled with bites of crisp skinned Lechon, and octopus and pig head tostadas.
Chef Diego Hernández has made it so that Troika can become a moveable venue. Even the bar set up outside, can come along for the ride. I mean, you can come and set up right outside of our house if you would like. Just kidding... sort of!
