First Look: Nook Hotel in Tijuana's Zona Centro

A new option for modern travelers has opened its doors on the vibrant intersection of Calle Sexta and Constitución in Tijuana. Nook Hotel is a 17 room modern hotel aimed to connect the two Californias, known as the CaliBaja region, even further by celebrating the cross-border lifestyle. Behind the vision is Tijuana’s power couple Mariel Cuervo and Miguel Marshall of Coyote Projects and Centro Ventures, who are the perfect depiction of the CaliBaja way of living. With bringing the best of both Californias, they’ve created an uncommon corner— as their bright neon reads.

As you walk through the main door, the reception welcomes you with a mix of old and new, with exposed brick and colorful wall decor. The calming curtains soften the look as you make your way to the main quarters. A curved ceiling leads your eyes to the colorful mural by Alonso Delgadillo at the end of the hallway. Maps illustrating the CaliBaja region dress the walls of the accommodations. The warm and cool interior tones make reference to the Californias’ sunny weather and soothing ocean. The Tijuana-San Diego native, Doris Marshall of Marshall Interiors leads with perfection the interior decor elements of the hotel inspired by the border’s synergy.

The hotel is joined by sister projects Nativo coffee shop and Edificio Emilia co-working spaces, both available to guests. For the next phase, Nook Hotel is expected to open Elvira restaurant/bar (inspired by Scarface’s fictional character) which will feature tropical 80s inspired food and drink program and will also serve as room service to hotel guests.
